This past weekend myself and Ritza visited the Romney Park 5 star Hotel to have a fine dining experience at The George Restaurant. We've always loved the Romney Park Hotel for it's luxurious ambience and hospitality. It was the perfect night out with delicious gourmet food and we were treated to our own private lounge to dine and enjoy an exclusive evening.

While sitting at the fireplace with a glass of wine, we enjoyed delicious freshly baked bread with interesting chilly and curry sauces to try out - always a great way to start a meal!

The chef then surprised us with our first course by serving tempura prawns and chicken filled deep fried phyllo parcels with a peach and fresh herb salad. The flavours of the dish complimented each other perfectly and it was fresh, delicious and very delicate.

For a cold rainy evening, myself and Ritza went for warm hearted starters which included one of the Romney's signature starters.

The Romney Signature Starter is Cape Malay shredded lamb on a brioche with tomato and onion salsa and homemade chutney. True to the Cape and absolutely incredible!  Ritza had the butternut soup with pumpkin seeds and fresh cream. You can never go wrong with a delicious soup and this one was surprisingly light and flavourful - perfect for a starter.

With mains, I always ask for the highest recommended dish on the menu and as most of the dishes on The George's restaurant is proudly South African and focused on true Cape Town cuisine, I went for a slow braised oxtail served on a bed of mash and spicy baked beans. It was cooked to perfection and nothing can beat slow cooked meals!

Ritza had a pepper crust steak served on top of potato rosti with crunchy green beans and butternut puree. It was perfectly cooked and the flavours yet again complimented each other beautifully.

For dessert I had a pecan nut pie with vanilla pod ice cream and Ritza had the classic and famous Creme Brulee with fresh berries. Both were delicious and the perfect ending to our meals.
