Italian Winter at BOCCA Restaurant
23 July 2019
Earlier this year we had the opportunity to try BOCCA restaurant for the first time and we were blown away by the incredible food, ambience and hospitality of this gem of a restaurant (see our previous food review HERE). We were absolutely thrilled when they invited us back for their Winter menu and the food was as delicious as we remember.
Owners Guido and Adnana immediately makes you feel at home as you enter their restaurant and it's great to experience their love and passion for food. If you enjoy Italian food and especially enjoy sharing plates with friends over a glass of wine, there's no better place to go. All the dishes on the menu are made from top quality ingredients and Guido prepares everything himself in the kitchen so you know it's going to be good!
For our meal we left our food order up to Guido and he selected some spectacular dishes for us. Bon appetite!
STARTERS:
As per usual, Guido spoilt us with a selection of starters and if you're not that hungry or having drinks with friends, I definitely recommend having a few starters and sharing them!

Polpo: Atlantic Octopus, baby potatoes, basil pesto

Mussel Fritters: battered chopped mussels, basil, spring onion parsley, lemon zest

MY FAVOURITE PIZZA SPOT IN CAPE TOWN! This is the Bocca: prosciutto crudo, stracciatella, tomato sauce, artichokes, thyme. It's the perfect size to eat on your own and if you want to experience authentic Italian pizza, there's no better place to have it!
MAINS:

Truffle Carbonara: Penne candela, pork guanciale, free range eggs, truffle oil, pecorino, black pepper. Another dish that is authentic Italian - simple, fresh and made with the best quality ingredients. What's not to love!

Trippa: angus beef tripe stew, beans, sausage, mint, parmesan, pecorino - this was a very unconventional choice but Elrico actually ended up loving it (he said it reminded him a lot of the tripe his grandmother use to make.

Beef Short Ribs: 12 hour slow roasted angus beef short ribs, red wine, bay leaves, salsa rossa - if you're a meat lover this is heaven. It falls apart with flavour!

Cauliflower Bites: Pecorino, garlic, anchovies, sun dried tomatoes and almond dressing - this to me is the perfect wine snack - it's absolutely delicious!
DESSERT:
We've made it known that Bocca has the best Tiramisu in town and of course highly recommend the Tiramisu to anyone who loves it, but why not try something different (we shared this one and as predicted we weren't disappointed!)

Cremoso: 70% dark chocolate mousse, orange compote, biscotti
A big thank you to Guido and Adnana for hosting us and for another incredible meal. We love your restaurant and can't wait to be back for that PIZZA!
