A Russian Food Experience with Vesna
12 June 2016
Dubai is filled with some of the best restaurants in the world and sometimes it's difficult to choose a favourite or make a decision on where to go next. Vesna Restaurant in the Conrad Hotel has a very stylish and fashionable vibe with some of the best food I've ever had and it completely changed my perception of Russian food!
Vesna means "Spring" and this theme is carried through from the decor to the presentation of the cuisine.

For our review, the chef prepared a "sharing style" menu and our host of the evening (who is from Ukraine) had great knowledge of the menu - sharing a little story about each dish he chose to serve us.

For our starters we tried the:
- Sliced Organic Eggplant Rolls stuffed with a blend of freshly ground walnuts and cream
- "Olivier" Salad with Lobster - Fresh lobster claws garnished with a quail egg and pike caviar
- Seared Tuna with vinegret salad (our personal favourite)
-Homemade Dumplings aka Beef Pelmeni filled with Australian black angus beef garnished with beef sour cream.

Mains were not only beautifully presented but also had some amazing dishes that we will definitely go back for.
First was the Okroshka a Slavic soup - chilled laban with slow-cooked chopped beef and finely diced vegetables served on hand crafted frozen bowls - how great is that for the hot Dubai summer!
One of their most popular and traditional Russian dishes, Beef Stroganoff - black Angus beef slowly-cooked with mixed champignon, onions, cloves and fresh cream served with spiced potato puree - definitely a highly recommended dish by LUXO!
Chickien Kiev - A contemporary twist on a classic dish; fried organic chicken coated in Japanese breadcrumbs, filled with dill butter, served with crudites
and lastly
Chicken Cutlet served on a bed of barley risotto.

Dessert is always a treat and a special thank you to Vesna for spoiling Ritza on her birthday with some sparkles and honey cake (if you like honey then this is a MUST - simply delicious!)
We also enjoyed a platter with various desserts including Napoleon - a tiered pastry layered with homemade vanilla cream, the kiev cake - A slice of light nut biscuit filled with cognac and buttercream centre and topped with dark chocolate and Anna Pavlova - Fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries served with meringue and vanilla cream.

Thank you to Vesna for being such amazing hosts and for the best cuisine we've had in weeks. If you want to try something different and enjoy Russian cuisine in absolute style, make sure you add Vesna to your list!
