A few weeks ago I went to the unique Coco Safar Patisserie and Cafe located in the Artem Gallery in Sea Point (read more about this stunning place here) and though they are known for being a great breakfast spot, they now offer a #JourneyBeyondOrdinary with their dinner experience.
Coco Safar literally transforms at night into a cosy, romantic setting with old Hollywood movie clips, soft lighting and the chatter of friends over a glass of wine. All diners receive a welcome drink on arrival as well as a night cap served at their Emporium.
The #JourneyBeyondOrdinary starts with a 2 or 3-course dinner and I love that they choose to work with seasonal ingredients and a small menu selection. We opted for the 3-course menu paired with their recommended wines.
Boule Feta: Feta Mousse, mushroom caponata, leeks, croutons, Waterleliefontein extra virgin olive oil paired with Sauvignon Blanc.
Foragers Salad: Broccoli, beetroot, pickled carrots, orange, red berries, herb infused cucumber, hand picked botanicals.
With this salad they want you to go on the "hunt" for the ingredients and I think it adds to the food experience - loved it!
This is by far the lightest mousse I've ever tasted. It tastes like flavoured air and it was the perfect balance to our rich mains.
Botanical: Olive oil ganache, mint panna cotta on a sponge, pickled apple & cucumber, apple & lemon thyme ice cream, fennel & micro coriander salad, frozen yogurt powder.
This is what I imagine dessert on the TV show 'Masterchef' should taste like. The balance of flavours was incredible and if you're like me and you don't really like sweet desserts, you will love this.
I was pleasantly surprised by the night cap - which I initially thought would be a delicious coffee or tea, turned out to be so much more than that! For your night cap, you can choose between a Rooibos or Coffee Espresso and based on your choice, they pair a small dessert to this drink. The flavours were spot on and this really ends the night on a high note.
The 3-course dining experience costs R495 and the 2-course R395 - great value for money and definitely a meal te remember!
