If you're a foodie, you'll love winter in Cape Town. Think cold rainy days in the beautiful Cape Winelands, big glasses of red wine by the fireplace and incredibly hearty meals prepared by some of the best chefs in the world.
We had the opportunity to visit La Petite Ferme situated in Franschhoek for their new Winter Menu created by recently appointed chef, Kyle Norris. "It's country cuisine with a fresh, contemporary touch." says Kyle
Firstly, before we get into the food, we've never been to La Petite Ferme and it really is a picturesque space and the perfect setting to enjoy a delicious meal.
Now the best part, the food. This Winter Menu is a delicious combination of flavours, ingredients and textures which draws motivation from the origins of La Petite Ferme. Each dish is perfectly balanced and beautifully presented like a piece of art on a plate. I also love the touch of traditional South African flavours as part of the menu. Let's dig in!
Grapevine Smoked Duck with grilled green onion | micro greens | black cherry tuile | pomegranate | passion fruit dust | candied carrot roots
Baked Camembert with asparagus pesto | classic vinaigrette | black garlic | candied walnuts | baby kale | fig confit
Venison Pâtisserie with butter beans | biltong | compressed grape | apple | apricot sous-vide loin | truffle mash candied beetroot | spinach purée | bone marrow jus
Slow Roasted Lamb (La Petite Ferme Classic) with aubergine | fondant potatoes | spuma mint yoghurt | plum | red wine jus | candied rosemary | tomato soil
This was our absolute favourite - it's warm, hearty comfort food done in La Petite Ferme fine dining style
Cake of the day: Traditional Carrot Cake with Salted Caramel and Berry Coulis
Warm Malva Pudding with guava sorbet | cinnamon | coffee-cardamom crème anglaise (INCREDIBLY delicious and brought back my flavour profile from the Middle East) | vanilla shortbread | basil
Trying the Winter Menu at La Petite Ferme was more than just a meal, it was a fine dining food experience. The attention to detail in each dish really made it a memorable meal and paired with great wine and excellent service - La Petite Ferme is a place worth the visit!
