To experience true Japanese cuisine in Cape Town, look no further than Kyoto Garden Sushi. You might think sushi is the only thing on the menu at Kyoto Garden Sushi, but it's so much more than that - it's a restaurant that offers authentic Japenese cuisine with top-quality, unusual ingredients from around the world.
The space is absolutely beautiful and will transport you to Japan with the stylish and calm surroundings. Scott Wood, the owner of Kyoto Garden Sushi is a world traveller with amazing knowledge of Japanese cuisine. He took us through the menu by explaining each dish and where it comes from and also served it with a drink/cocktai of his choice.
If you're a whiskey or gin person, I'd definitely recommend a cocktail at Kyoto Garden Sushi - Scott showed us some of his finest Japenese whiskeys and gin that can only be found at his restaurant in the whole of Cape Town.
For our review, we had their current Tasting Menu for 2. This menu is perfect for someone who wants to try something different and creative. From eel to sea urchin and soup with ice cubes - you will experience a wide variety of flavours, textures and interesting cooking techniques.
Shallow Seas: Urchin, Eel, Scallops
Deep Ika: Squid and Ink
Rising Sun: Tempura, Leaves, Oysters
Into the cold: Noodles, Ice, Lime
Ocean Blue: Lobster with Brown Butter
Kori Cream: Matcha, Miso, Sesame Seed
It was difficult to choose a favourite dish from this menu as each dish was so creative and tasty in each own way but I will definitely recommend the Squid and Ink and Into the Cold Noodle Soup - it's fresh, delicious and perfect for summer.
